The Spinning Time

Once upon a time, in a small village lived a student who had a dream to be a civil servant. To make his dream come true, he left for the capital city to take a state exam. Somewhere along the tiring journey, he stopped for a while to have a rest. While repelling his fatigue, he daydreamed.

He had some worries concerning his own ability, mixed with the wonderful hope of being accepted as a civil servant. In the middle of his beautiful daydream, an old man approached him and said, “Young man, it seems that you are not from this region. Where are you going?”

"I’m on my way to the capital city to take the state exam, sir."
“I was watching you daydreaming. What was it about?”
“Oh, nothing serious, sir. I just want to work as a civil servant. But I am afraid of not being accepted.”

Their conversation grew more and more interesting. After a discussion, suddenly the old man took something out of his own pocket. Then he gave it to the student, saying, “Maybe this is just the thing you need, son!”

“Hah! A top? How can a top make my dream come true, sir?” asked the student curiously. The old man replied, “Young man, this is a time top. If you spin the top to the right you will come to the future, to the time and condition you want to be in, and vice versa. “Soon after the student received the top , the old man went away.

The student immediately tested the truth of the old man’s words. Keeping the idea of being successful in the state exam, he spun the top to the right. Suddenly, he found himself in front of the state exam notice board. He found his name on it. The student was elated. But this feeling did not last long. He wanted to start working in the government as soon as possible. Feeling impatient, he spun the top to the right one more time. Right away, the student found himself working in the government office.

Alas! The pleasure as a civil servant also did not last for a long time. Now he wished to be an executive. So, he spun his top again. At a blink of time, he was in that position he wanted. Now he became addicted. He kept spinning and spinning the top to make the time pass as he wished. Avoiding problems that hindered his life became his habit.

The top spun and spun. The time flew and flew. In no time the student grew old, facing death. Regret filled his heart. “How short and meaningless my life has been. Oh, I wish this spinning top would bring me back to my past.” In his desperation, the student spun the top to the left. Suddenly he was awake from his sleep. All those events were merely a dream.

The student was happy and grateful that it was just a dream. Then he made a vow to himself to keep struggling and keep enjoying the process to get what he wanted in life.
